Twin Peaks
The Twin Peaks Project is located 200km northeast of Geraldton in Western Australia. The granted tenure extends over two mafic dominated greenstone belts: the 30km long Twin Peaks Belt and the smaller Barloweerie Belt located to the east.
Between 1906 and 1960, copper ore averaging 16% Cu was extracted from workings located north of Twin Peaks homestead. Previous workers identified along the eastern margin of the Twin Peaks Belt indications of base metal mineralisation considered to be analogous to that found at Golden Grove located 200km to the south-southeast of the Twin Peaks project.Remodelling of electromagnetic data (airborne VTEM and historic ground-based EM) in conjunction with field inspection of the geology has identified a series of base metal targets as yet untested along the eastern margin of the greenstone belt. These are in addition to zones of anomalous copper and zinc in soil, previously reported higher in the stratigraphy. Heritage clearances are planned for completion late in 2009, prior to drill testing a selection of the targets based on geology, geochemistry and geophysics.
Jabiru completed a gravity survey across the central part of the Twin Peaks greenstone belt with the aim of aiding in the delineation of new iron ore targets under recent cover. A program of field mapping and surface sampling has also been undertaken, and the data is being collated and interpreted in conjunction with the gravity and aeromagnetic data prior to any commitment to future work.
